MEDFORD — The Central High School boys basketball team turned up the defense to win its second straight game on Thursday.
The RiverHawks (5-3) followed up a win over Tomah on Tuesday with a 41-22 victory at Medford two nights later.
Central limited its opponent to 20.5-percent shooting (9 for 44) overall and eight points in the second half. Medford (4-6) made just 3 of 23 second-half shots and was 1 for 12 from the 3-point line after halftime.
Senior Derrick Pangier scored nine points to lead Central, which plays at Logan on Tuesday. The RiverHawks were just 1 for 15 from the 3-point line, and Pangier was the player who knocked one down. He also led the team with nine rebounds.
Anthony Jopnes and Jaylon Calvert each scored six points, and Joey Pretasky pulled down seven rebounds. Gabe Servais and Frankie Wilk each had six rebounds, and Wilk added four assists.
Chippewa Falls McDonell 62, Arcadia 49
CHIPPEWA FALLS — The Macks (7-4) handed the Raiders (5-6) their second loss in three games on a tough shooting night for Arcadia.
The Raiders were led by senior Kaiden Rotering’s 13 points in a game they trailed 33-20 at halftime. Rotering made a 3-pointer on his way to nine first-half points, and he followed that up with four free throws in the second half.
Trevor Pronschinske made two second-half 3-pointers and scored eight points for Arcadia. Teammate Carter Wegman also made a pair of 3 and scored eight.
