HOLMEN — The Holmen High School girls wrestling team posted a pair of big dual victories with wins over Mukwonago and St, Croix Falls at the Bernie L. Ferry Fieldhouse on Friday.
The Vikings, ranked first by Wisconsin Grappler, beat Mukwonago 46-21 and St. Croix Falls 51-16. They recorded nine pins in the two duals.
Senior Keionna Noel and sophomore Avalee Euler won by pin twice.
Noel took care of Mukwonago’s Elda Devictor in 30 seconds and St. Croix Falls’ Autumn Steffen in 58 seconds for wins at 165 pounds, and Euler beat Mukwonago’s McKenzie Healy in 2 minutes and and St. Croix Falls’ Larissa Chapman in 2:20 for victories at 185.
Sophomores Aini Anderson, ranked fourth in the state at 107, and Kaytlynn Lambries, ranked seventh at 114, also recorded one pin apiece. Lambries added a decision and Anderson a win by forfeit.
Alexis Maier (235), Carissa Ceresa (100) and Hayley Dezelske (120) also won by pin for the Vikings. Senior Peyton Kratochvill also picked up a major decision at 138.
Friday Night Fights
MELROSE — Sparta crowned a pair of individual champions while placing second to Eau Claire Memorial as a team.
The Spartans scored 81 points to clip third-place Tomah (80) and received individual titles from Ayshia Hibbler (8-1,120 pounds) and Veda Lepley (8-2, 132). The Timberwolves were led by Lucy Gross (7-3), who had two pins to win at 185. Lepley had three pins and Hibbler two.
Sophia Paulson (9-2) won at 145 with a pair of pins for Aquinas, and Payten Craig (6-1) had two pins to win at 114 for G-E-T/Melrose-Mindoro.
Westby’s Kyle Klum (6-0) won at 107 with a pin and a technical fall, and teammate Catie Duerst had two pins on her way to winning at 235.
BOYS
Whitehall Invitational
WHITEHALL — Arcadia claimed the team championship with 215 points in a 10-team field.
Ony Zaragoza (6-3) followed a bye with two pins to win at 113, and he was joined by Arcadia teammates Adalberto Ortiz (7-4, 157) and Austin Fernholz (7-3, 190) at the top of the podium. Ortiz pinned all three of his opponents, and Fernholz ended three of his four matches by pin.
Landen Pehler (7-4, 120), Matthew Badillo (9-2, 144), David Aguilar (7-3, 165) and Nicolas Esteban (7-4, 175) all placed second for the victorious Raiders.
Drew Powell (11-2, 144) won for Brookwood, and Grant Klimek (12-4, 138) and Sam Marsolek (11-3, 150) won for Independence/Gilmanton.
Jared Grimsled (15-2, 120) and Gavyn Wilkins (15-3, 126) won for North Crawford/Seneca.
