Tuesday boys basketball report: Central claws back to tip visiting Menomonie

The Central High School boys basketball team erased a 16-point deficit on the way to beat Menomonie 55-54 in a nonconference game at the Mark Sutton Memorial Gymnasium on Tuesday.

The RiverHawks (3-1) trailed 26-17 at halftime before scoring 38 points in the second half to beat the Mustangs (2-2). Sophomore guard Anthony Jones made a 3-pointer to give Central a two-point lead with less than a minute left.

Sophomore Gabe Servais led the RiverHawks with 23 points and added six rebounds. Sophomore Will Schilling added 13 points with the help of three 3-pointers, and senior Frankie Wilk scored eight points and grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.

Aquinas 77, Prairie du Chien 10

The Blugolds (5-0) remained unbeaten by holding the Blackhawks to four points in the first half and six in the second at the Reinhart Athletic Complex.

Ten players scored for Aquinas, which had five players reach double figures.

Senior Trey Bahr and sophomore Calvin Bahr led the way with 16 points apiece, while senior Vincent Bahr had 12. Senior Brayden Young and junior Logan Becker each scored 10 for the Blugolds, who play at Arcadia on Friday.

Caledonia 83, Holmen 56

CALEDONIA — The Warriors (4-1) built a 37-point lead after one half and cruised to a win over the Vikings (4-2) for their second win in a row.

Seniors Reid Klug and Ethan Stendel scored 20 points each to lead Caledonia, which was successful on 12 of 14 attempts from the foul line. Mason King added 14 points and Grant King and Garrett Konz 12 for the Warriors.

Senior Keenan Eisermann had 10 points and five rebounds to lead Holmen, which made 10 3-pointers on 30 attempts but shot just 36 percent overall.

Eau Claire North 70, Onalaska 59

EAU CLAIRE — Senior Broden Steiner scored 20 points, and junior Ian Kowal added 13 for the Hilltoppers (4-1) in their first loss of the season.

River Falls 75, Logan 60

The Wildcats took advantage of the Rangers’ press and used easy baskets to pull away during a 48-point second half at the Steve Hole Field House.

Logan (2-3) was led by a 22-point performance from senior Bradley Check. Freshman Tommy Check added 14 and sophomore Bubba Leaver 12 for the Rangers, who play at Ellsworth on Friday.

West Salem 87, Black River Falls 53

BLACK RIVER FALLS — The Panthers (5-0, 2-0) remained unbeaten despite playing without injured senior Kyle Hehli, who broke a finger during last week’s nonconference win over Holmen.

West Salem still knocked down 14 3-pointers and had 12 players score in a win over the Tigers (0-5, 0-3). Senior guard Nathan Karr made three 3-pointers and scored a team-high 25 points.

Senior Carter Pontius was the only other West Salem player in double figures, and he finished with 14 points. Spencer Kammel and Nathan Dillaber had eight each.

Black River Falls was led by sophomore Braylon Backaus (16 points) and senior Cecil Lopez (15 points).

Onalaska Luther 69, Arcadia 48

ARCADIA — The Coulee Conference-leading Knights (5-0, 3-0) received 25 points on 11-for-19 shooting, seven rebounds and four assists from senior Synclair Byus to take care of the Raiders (3-3, 2-1).

Senior Will Huelskamp added 18 points, 13 rebounds and three assists for Luther, which outscored Arcadia by 17 points in the second half and hosts Prairie du Chien on Friday. Senior Jackson Kendall also had 10 points and five assists for the Knights, who made 27 of 50 shots for 54 percent.

Freshman Deklyn Grzadzielewski and senior Kaiden Rotering scored 18 points each for the Raiders. Rotering made four 3-pointers and Grzadzielewski three.

G-E-T 68, Viroqua 53

GALESVILLE — The Red Hawks (3-3, 1-1) had lost three in a row before outscoring the Blackhawks by five points in the first half and 10 in the second.

Senior Jackson Burns had 21 points and 12 rebounds for G-E-T, which plays at Sparta on Friday. Junior Mason Brone added 16 points and junior Travis Theisen 14 for the Red Hawks.

Viroqua (2-3, 1-2) was stopped in an attempt at a third straight victory and was led by Benson McDowell’s game-high 24 points.

Westby 67, Fennimore 56

WESTBY — The Norsemen (2-4) put an end to a three-game losing streak behind eight 3-pointers and 24 points from sophomore Maddox Fencl.

Fencl made five 3s in the first half and three more in the second. He has made 17 this season and has 12 in his last two games.

Senior Devin Nedland added 14 points with two 3s, and sophomore Maddox Torkellson scored 10 for Westby.

Ithaca 85, Necedah 24

NECEDAH — Cody Byrnes scored 21 points for the Bulldogs in a comfortable victory over the Cardinals, who were held to nine first-half points.

Luke Murphy scored eight points to lead Necedah.
