Central High School junior Alahnna Simpson followed up one big performance with another, and this one led the RiverHawks to their first victory of the season.
Simpson scored 24 points for the second straight game and had 15 of them in the first half as Central set the tone for a 55-49 nonconference win over Eau Claire North at the Mark Sutton Memorial Gymnasium on Tuesday.
Simpson opened her season with a double-double in a loss to West Salem, then matched the scoring performance to help hand the Huskies (2-1) their first loss of the season after wins over Marshfield and Chippewa Falls McDonell.
Senior forward Zaya Whitaker added 10 points for the RiverHawks and had eight of them i the second half.
West Salem 75, Logan 19
WEST SALEM — The Panthers (2-0) won their second straight to open the season and kept the Rangers (0-2) winless in a game that was 42-9 by halftime.
Eleven players scored for West Salem, and senior Megan Johnson’s 20 points led the way. She hit two 3-pointers and scored 16 of those i the first half.
Junior Josie Brudos added 16 points and senior MacLaine Heilman nine for the Panthers, who made six 3s and won their fifth straight home game.
Logan was led by Lydia Mason’s eight points.
Madison Edgewood 58, Aquinas 34
MADISON — The Blugolds (1-2) slipped under the .500 mark with a second straight loss — this one coming to last year’s WIAA Division 3 state champions.
Sophomore Ava Fernholz made a 3-pointer and scored nine points to lead Aquinas, which opened its season with a win over Beaver Dam before a loss to Kettle Moraine Lutheran and then the Crusaders.
Junior Sammy Davis had eight points, seven rebounds and three steals for the Blugolds, who struggled to the control the ball and had 16 turnovers.
Cashton 55, Viroqua 22
CASHTON — The Eagles (3-1) made eight 3-pointers and hit four in each half of a win over the Blackhawks (1-1).
Junior Kate Wall made four of the 3s — two in each half — and scored a team-high 18 points for Cashton. Sophomore teammate Kennedy Brown added 11 points and made three 3s.
Viroqua was led by freshman Allyah Schwem’s 16 points. She scored four of her five field goals after halftime.
De Soto 62, La Crescent-Hokah 37
LA CRESCENT — The Pirates (1-1) picked up their first win of the season and were led by junior Ella Koch’s 20 points. Sophomore Kylee Venner added 18 and sophomore Sylvia Krueger 16 for De Soto.
