WIARA state ski and snowboard: Gehrke 10th and 11th in boys Giant Slalom and Super G as three-day meet concludes

LA CROSSE — West Salem High School junior Jonathan Gehrke placed 10th in one race and 11th in another to highlight local performances on the third and final day of the WIARA state meet at Mt. La Crosse on Monday.

Gehrke was 10th in the Super G with a time of 35.27 seconds and 11th in the Giant Slalom with a 29.04 for the Aquinas/Onalaska/West Salem/Luther co-op, which placed 12th in the Boys Super G with a score of 206 and 13th in the Boys Giant Slalom with a 181.

The Central/Logan/Providence Academy/Tomah team was 22nd in both boys races.

Hartland Arrowhead won the Boys Giant Slalom with a score of 92, and Lake Geneva Badger won the Super G with a 77.

AOWSL also received a top-50 finish from Aquinas junior Matthew Bennett (43rd, 37.01) in the Super G. Aquinas freshman Jackson Dahl (57th, 37.49) and West Salem freshman Peyton Oelfke (95th, 39.23) were also in the top 100 for AOWSL in the Super G.

Central sophomore Cole Hasburgh led CLPT in the Super G with a 42nd-place finish and time of 36.96. Central sophomore Ty Ericksmoen (98th, 39.45) was also in the top 100.

Bennett was 38th (29.9), Dahl 60th (30.54), Oelfke 72nd (30.95), Aquinas senior Tegan Schott 86th (31.58) and West Salem sophomore Noah Biondo 96th (32.46) for AOWSL in the Giant Slalom.

Hasburgh was 18th (29.27) and Ericksmoen 73rd (31.02) on the Giant Slalom for CLPT.

The Girls Super G was also contested on Monday, and the Western Northern co-op was fourth (115). AOWSL was 11th (194) and CLPT 17th (319).

Holmen junior Julia McBride was 56th (40.19) for the Western North co-op as its only local skier. Hudson junior Alyssa Raven was third individually (36.22), and senior Magnolia Sheehan placed 25th (38.22).

AOWSL was led by Onalaska junior Kendall Carlson (15th, 37.53) and Aquinas junior Brynn Grabowski (19th, 37.78) in the top 20. Onalaska freshman Ella Tepp (64th, 40.92) and Aquinas sophomore Jordi DeBauche (96th, 43.5) also ran with the top 100.

Providence Academy freshman Ivory Althoff led CLPT by placing 33rd in 38.8. Providence freshman Gianna Bennett (83rd, 42.45) and Logan freshman Emma Reuter (88th, 42.73) were also in the top 100 for that team.
