ONALASKA — A player doesn’t ever anticipate having the kind of night that Luther High School senior Logan Pierce had against Bangor on Friday.
The Knights improved their record to 2-0 by routing the Cardinals 40-6, but the bigger story comes with the contribution of Pierce, a running back and linebacker.
Pierce rushed 14 times for 150 yards and three touchdowns, returned an interception for a touchdown, blocked a punt and returned it for a touchdown, recovered a fumble and was in on 12 tackles.
Pierce scored on runs of 44, 11 and 8 yards. The interception return covered 27 yards and the punt return 20 yards.
Luther scored 33 of its points in the first half, and Pierce pushed his season totals to 259 rushing yards and eight total touchdowns as the Knights prepare to begin the Coulee Conference portion of their season at G-E-T (0-2) next Friday.
Sophomore Finn Rick also rushed for 48 yards on seven attempts and senior Sam Schmeling added a 3-yard touchdown run. Rick and Schmeling also each forced a fumble, and senior Logan Matzke and junior Jason Kolb joined Pierce in recovering one.
