Professional basketball: Johnny Davis heading to Turkey for next step in basketball career

LA CROSSE — Central High School graduate Johnny Davis has made his next professional choice and will play basketball in Turkey.

Davis, who also starred for the University of Wisconsin and was selected with the 10th overall pick by the Washington Wizards in the 2022 NBA Draft, will leave in August to join the Glint Manisa Baset of the Turkish Basketball Super League.

Davis, 24, was most recently active with the G League’s Wisconsin Herd in Oshkosh. He played in 17 games and averaged 27.8 minutes per game for the Milwaukee Bucks affiliate during the 2025-26 season.

The 6-foot-4 guard averaged 15.6 points and 5.9 rebounds to go with 1.7 assists and 1.6 steals per game. Davis shot 44.5 percent from the floor and made 34.8 percent of his 3-point attempts.

He scored 2,158 points during his Central career and helped the team win a WIAA Division 2 state championship as a freshman and 94 games during four varsity seasons. Davis then averaged 13.4 points and 6.2 rebounds during two seasons with the Badgers and was named the Big Ten Player of the Year before declaring for the draft.

Davis played in 112 games for Washington and averaged 3.5 points and 1.6 rebounds while playing 11.4 minutes per game. He also played for two other G League teams before joining the Herd.
