WEST SALEM — The West Salem High School softball team scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to emerge with a 5-4 nonconference victory over visiting Fall Creek on Friday.
The Panthers (5-1) won their fourth game in a row and used three hits and a hit batter to erase the Crickets’ 4-2 lead after the top of the seventh.
Shortstop Parker Powell started the bottom of the inning with a single to left field, and second baseman Brooklyn Haverly-Ghelfi was hit by a 3-2 pitch to put two runners on.
Catcher Brenna Pontius then hit a two-run triple to left, and third baseman Briauna Mathison broke the tie with a ground ball that found its way to left field to score Pontius with the winning run.
First baseman Madison Elsen was 2 for 3 for West Salem, and center fielder Brooklyn Lee doubled and right fielder Kylie Elsen tripled and drove in a run.
Josie Brudos pitched a complete game and allowed two earned runs on nine hits. She struck out nine and didn’t walk a batter.
Caledonia 2, Byron 1
ST. CHARLES — The Warriors (3-0) scored once in the first inning and once in the fourth, and pitcher Avery Augedahl struck out 11 in a two-hit complete game against the Bears.
First baseman Elsa Blum was 3 for 3 with two doubles and a home run to lead the Caledonia offense. Blum had a run-scoring double in the top of the first inning and slugged a solo homer to left field in the fourth.
Augedahl surrendered a run in the bottom of the sixth but set the side down in order during the seventh.
Melrose-Mindoro 21, C-FC 5 (3)
FOUNTAIN CITY — The Mustangs (4-0) scored 14 runs in the third inning of a one-sided victory over the Pirates.
Right fielder Miranda Banse was 3 for 4 with a double and four runs driven in, and pitcher Bella Rozek went 2 for 4 with two doubles and four runs driven in for Melrose-Mindoro, which had 11 hits.
Shortstop Cooper Zeman hit a triple during a 2-for-3 performance that included three runs scored and three driven in, and catcher Anna Radcliffe went 2 for 3.
Center fielder Kelsey Young and left fielder Lauralee Stanton each drove in two runs for the Mustangs.
