MINNEAPOLIS — Five local athletes were able to claim event championships in the Mankato State Showcase at the University of Minnesota on Saturday.
Holmen High School senior Lydia Lazarescu was a double winner with victories in the 60- and 200-meter races with respective times of 7.64 and 25.09 seconds.
Senior Brenna Schmidt also won the shot put (40 feet, 3.75 inches) for the Vikings at a meet that did not keep team scores.
Onalaska senior Makena McGarry, Onalaska junior Brendan Chenault and Holmen junior Jakai Ayed had multiple top-10 finishes.
McGarry won the long jump (17-3.5), placed third in the triple jump (34-10.25) and added a sixth-place performance in the 200 (26.46). Chenault won the long jump (22-5.25) and was third in the 200 (23.0), and Ayed won the 60 hurdles (8.06) and was ninth in the 200 (23.45).
Holmen senior Sabrina Lechnir was second in the 1,600 (5:17.98) and fourth in the 800 (2:24.49), Holmen senior Alivia Wickstrom was second in the 60 hurdles (9.53), and Onalaska sophomore Wylder Burch was runner-up in the high jump (6-0).
Holmen senior Abry Bloyer was third in the 60 (7.81) and fifth in the 200 (26.39), Holmen junior Jacob Simmons was third in the 400 (51.94), and Onalaska senior Isabella Malecek was third in the high jump (5-2).
Holmen senior Jack Barth placed fifth in the 400 (52.25), Onalaska sophomore Cooper Hegge sixth in the high jump (6-0) and seventh in the long jump (20-1), and Onalaska senior Luke Siegel was seventh in the 400 (53.53).
Eighth-place finishes were recorded by Onalaska sophomore Finley Rudie (60 hurdles, 10.28), Onalaska senior Rickie Tillotson (shot put, 33-2.75) and Holmen senior Ryland Eickhoff (200, 23.42). Eickhoff was also 10th in the 60 (7.29).
Holmen sophomore Ruby Kinsman was ninth in the 800 (2:28.93), Holmen sophomore Tay Parcher was ninth in the high jump (5-10), and Onalaska senior Olivia Peterson was ninth in the pole vault (9-0).
Onalaska senior Joshua Phillips (60 hurdles, 8.95) and Holmen senior Spencer Lowman (3,200, 10:7.92) posted 10th-place finishes.
Holmen’s girls were second in the 800 relay (1:46.31) and eighth in the 1,6000 relay (4:27.72), while Holmen’s boys were fourth in the 800 relay (1:36.17), fifth in the 3,200 relay (8:34.36) and seventh in the 1,600 relay (3:40.84). Onalaska’s boys were sixth in the 1,600 relay (3:40.69).
Inside Out Meet
PLATTEVILLE — Logan senior Mason Cogburn picked up a victory in the discus (135-2) and third-place finish in the shot put (47-7) in a meet at UW-Platteville.
Logan senior Sarah Johnson was second in the discus (95-10) and third in the shot put (31-11), while Camden Daykin was second in the pole vault (11-0) for the Rangers, who were the only local team competing. Sophomore Alayna Mack was also second in the long jump (13-10).
Junior Annika Vianden was third in the discus (76-9) and sixth in the shot put (28-11.25) and junior Anne Overhoff fourth in both the long jump (13-2) and pole vault (6-6).
Junior Zach Shilling was fourth in the 800 (2:22.26) and senior Hudson Davis fourth in the discus (127-1) for the Logan boys, who also received fifth-place performances from sophomore Finley Duerst (long jump, 18-2) and junior Justice Parcher (shot put, 42-9.75).
Freshman Anasia Sumlar was also fifth in the discus (70-0) for Logan’s girls.
