WISCONSIN RAPIDS — The West Salem co-op gymnastics team put together a seventh-place finish in the Division 1 team standings at the WIAA state gymnastics meet on Friday.
The Panthers recorded a team score of 138.7667 to finish ahead of eighth-place Waukesha West (136.35) and behind sixth-place Eau Claire Memorial (139.3).
Hartland Arrowhead won the team championship with a 144.0164.
Camdyn Lyga, a senior from Bangor, led to co-op with a 12th-place all-around finish and score of 35.2667. Her top event was a 9.25 on the floor exercise, and that placed her fourth in the field.
Friday’s competition was exclusively team, and West Salem will have individuals — Lyga among them — competing in an individual state competition on Saturday.
Senior Olivia Maki recorded the eighth-best performance on the vault (9.3). Lyga had the 12th-best routine on the balance beam (8.9833), and senior Hayden Rohde was West Salem’s top performer on the uneven bars with am 8.65 that was 14th overall.
The finish is the fifth in a row of eighth or better for the West Salem co-op, which has competed with Division 1 schools the past two seasons after placing seconds two straight years in Division 2.
