Saturday afternoon basketball: Aquinas boys win, Caledonia girls knocked out of tournament

LA CROSSE — The Aquinas High School boys basketball team recorded a 54-43 nonconference victory over Little Chute at the Reinhart Athletic Complex on Saturday.

The Blugolds (20-4) outscored the Mustangs (15-9) by 12 points in the second half after falling behind 19-18 after one half.

Junior Calvin Bahr scored a team-high 17 points, while seniors Finley Strom and Logan Becker added 13 apiece.

Becker made 11 of 14 free throws and scored all of his points in the second half. Strom also scored all of his points after halftime for Aquinas, which is sixth in Division 3 for this week’s Bound Wisconsin/Zaleski Sports media poll.

Red Wing 58, Caledonia 48

ROCHESTER — The fourth-seeded Warriors had senior Aubrie Klug on the court but couldn’t get past the top-seeded Wingers in a section semifinal at the Mayo Civic Auditorium.

Klug made eight 3-pointers and score 24 points after suffering an injury during the team’s win over Winona Cotter on Monday. She made four in each half.

Senior Kensey King added eight points for Caledonia, which finished its season with a 22-7 record.
