MSHSL state wrestling: Meiners, Cooper Allen move on to Class A semifinals

ST. PAUL — The Caledonia/Houston co-op boys wrestling team will have to entrants in Friday night’s MSHSL Class A state semifinals after they won quarterfinal bouts Friday morning at the Grand Casino Arena.

Eighth-grader Kiplyn Meiners and sophomore Cooper Allen advanced and will compete for a spot in the finals on Friday night.

Meiners (30-13) recorded a 10-1 major decision over New Richland/H-E-G in his 107-pound quarterfinal. Meiners opened his tournament with a pin in the first round on Thursday and will meet Staples Motley freshman Garrett Bjerga (43-1) in the semifinal round.

Allen (31-11) squeaked past Minneota junior Cael Fier 4-3 in his quarterfinal at 215. Allen won his first-round match by technical fall and will wrestle Frazee senior Tanner Moe (28-16) in the semifinals.

Allen beat Fier by scoring all of his points in the third period. He scored the win on a takedown with 16 seconds left.

Senior Aiden Burns (31-10) was knocked into the consolation bracket when he was pinned by Pelican Rapids senior Danny Salazar at 114, and senior Will Allen was pinned by Minneota senior Brock Fier at 172.

Both have consolation matches up next.
