WINONA — Senior Aaron Stemper and sophomore Grant King were a two-man wrecking crew for the Caledonia High School boys basketball team on Tuesday.

Stemper made eight 3-pointers and scored 32 points, and King made a pair of 3s on his way to 31 points as the Warriors wiped out Winona Cotter 77-60 to clinch a share of the Three Rivers-East championship.

Caledonia (15-8, 7-1) took a half-game lead on second-place Rushford-Peterson (21-3, 6-1), which completes its conference season at home against Cotter on Friday.

Stemper made six 3s and scored 20 points in the first half to help the Warriors to a 36-31 advantage over the third-place Ramblers (17-8, 4-3). King scored 19 of his points after halftime and made 5 of 7 free throws.

The Warriors, who also received 13 points from junior Jacoby Hammell, close out their regular season at Cannon Falls (19-6) on Friday and at Minnehaha Academy (17-5) on Saturday.

West Salem 80, Arcadia 61

ARCADIA — The Panthers (19-2, 11-0 Coulee) — ranked fifth in Division 2 for this week’s Bound Wisconsin/Zaleski Sports media poll — won the outright Coulee Conference championship by beating the Raiders for a second time.

Coach Shane Schmeling said West Salem played much better in the second half as it held Arcadia to 25 points and pulled away from a three-point halftime advantage.

Senior Tyson Labus scored a team-high 20 points, and sophomore Elliott Corcoran added 19 with a pair of 3-pointers.

Junior Drew McConkey added 16 points and senior Nate Dillaber 14 to give the Panthers four double-figure scorers. Corcoran had 11 and McConkey 10 in the second half.

Central 89, Logan 46

LA CROSSE — The RiverHawks (17-3, 9-2) took over sole possession of second place in the MVC with a one-sided win over the Rangers (2-19, 1-9) at the Mark Sutton Memorial Gymnasium.

Junior Anthony Jones had 24 points and eight steals for Central — ranked eighth in Division 2 — in its third consecutive victory.

Jones had 19 points in the first half and put the RiverHawks comfortably ahead by turning steal after steal into points early in the game. He made 10 of 17 shots.

“He was attacking the rim and scoring at all three levels,” Central coach Todd Fergot said of Jones. “I thought he played a really good, solid game for us and got us going in that first half.”

Thirteen players scored for the RiverHawks, and junior Drew Ehler-Blum made five 3-pointers for 15 points. Junior Gabe Servais added 10 and sophomore Oliver Walker nine.

“I thought our second group did a really nice job at the end of the game,” Fergot said. “They really played connected on offense, and I think that was a good lesson for all of my guys to learn. We have to be connected and share the ball.

“I’m happy for Drew because it’s his birthday today, and he’s been working hard and getting better and better and better.”

Sophomore Charlie Zellner scored a team-high 10 for Logan. He also had six rebounds. Junior Ryan Thurman added eight points.

Onalaska 71, Sparta 46

SPARTA — The Hilltoppers (17-3, 10-1), who are ranked fourth in Division 2, clinched a share of the championship by beating the Spartans for a second time.

Onalaska, which leads Central by one game and Aquinas by one-and-a-half, will claim the title outright if it can win at Tomah on Feb. 26.

Sophomore Tyler Kowal, senior Rowan McGrath and sophomore Gavin McRoberts all scored 12 points to lead Onalaska, which plays at fifth-ranked West Salem (19-2) on Thursday.

Luther 80, Black River Falls 53

BLACK RIVER FALLS — The Knights (12-10, 6-4 Coulee) won for the third time in four games and outscored the Tigers by 19 points in the second half.
