LA CROSSE — Holmen High School junior Julia McBride was part of a team championship performance at the WIARA state ski and snowboard meet hosted by Mt. La Crosse this weekend.
McBride, competing with the Western Northern co-op, was the fifth-fastest skier for her team as it won the Girls Slalom with a score of 40 points on Sunday.
McBride was timed at 50.65 seconds and placed 31st overall in a field of 139 competitors.
The team finished comfortably ahead of runner-up Milwaukee DSHA (74) and third-place Wausau/D.C. Everest (106).
Western Northern was led by Hudson junior Alyssa Raven, who was second overall with a time of 42.0. Pittsville senior Alli Marti won the race in 42.87.
Western Northern’s Emelia Berg was fifth (45.02), and teammates Magnolia Sheehan (47.69) and Petra Sederstrom (48.02) 16th and 17th, respectively.
The team also placed fourth in the Giant Slalom with a score of 121. DSHA (97) won and was followed by Slinger (104) and Wausau/D.C. Everest (112).
Raven led the way again, this time with a third-place finish and time of 33.53. Berg was 20th (35.65), Sheehan 35th (36.47) and Sederstrom 63rd (38.7) in a race won by Marti in 32.94.
Aquinas/Onalaska/West Salem/Luther’s girls were 15th in the Slalom with a score of 289, and Central/Logan/Providence Academy/Tomah was 17th (318).
Providence Academy freshman Ivory Althoff placed 18th individually with her time of 48.7, and Onalaska junior Kendall Carlson was 19th at 49.17. Providence freshman Gianna Bennett was 77th (56.7) and Aquinas junior Ella Tepp 79th (57.03).
Aquinas freshman Simone Swanson (91st, 59.1) and Aquinas sophomore Jordi DeBauche (100th, 1:00.97) also finished among the top 100 in the Slalom.
AOWSL was 11th (150) and CLPT 17th in the Girls Giant Slalom., and the top local individual in that race was Althoff, who was 15th in 35.31.
Aquinas junior Brynn Grabowski was 21st (35.67) and Carlson 28th (35.82). Tepp was 50th (37.73), Bennett 73rd (39.88) and Logan freshman Emma Reuter 74th (40.09). Swanson (81st, 40.44) and DeBauche (98th, 42.05) were also in the top 100.
The Boys Slalom was also contested on Sunday, and AOWSL was 16th with a score of 253. CLPT was 22nd with a 717.
Aquinas freshman Jackson Dahl was the top local performer with his 31-place run of 46.57.
West Salem freshman Peyton Oelfke (60th, 49.38), Aquinas senior Tegan Schott 68th, 50.58), Aquinas junior Matthew Bennett (94th, 55.98) and West Salem junior Jonathan Gehrke (97th, 57.27) also finished in the top 100.
The meet continues with Boys Giant Slalom, Girls Super G and Boys Super G on Monday.
