Saturday boys basketball: Luther dominates Cashton; third-ranked Onalaska clipped by Kimberly

ONALASKA — The Luther High School boys basketball team held Cashton scoreless for the first 13 minutes on the way to a 61-34 nonconference victory to close out Basketball Hall of Fame Day on Saturday.

The Knights (11-9) won their second game in a row and for the fourth time in five games as they head to the final four games of the regular season.

Freshman Javon Zenke scored a game-high 11 points for Luther, which held a 30-13 halftime lead and won the rebounding battle 47-31. Zenke made both of his attempts from the 3-point line.

Senior Max Huelskamp added 10 points and 15 rebounds for the Knights. He also blocked three shots.

Kimberly 77, Onalaska 76

ONALASKA — The Papermakers took advantage of a late foul call to beat the Hilltoppers at the Chuck Deeth Fieldhouse.

Onalaska sophomore Tyler Kowal made a 3-pointer to give the Hilltoppers a 76-75 lead with 6 seconds left before senior Kegan Pleau drew a foul with 1.4 seconds left and made both free throws to put Kimberley (13-8) ahead.

Onalaska (16-3), which is third in Division 2 for this week’s Bound Wisconsin/Zaleski Sports media poll, missed a shot from midcourt as time expired. The Papermakers are currently third in the FVA standings.

Senior Rowan McGrath scored a team-high 18 points for Onalaska, which leads the MVC by a game and next plays at Sparta on Tuesday.

Sophomore Gavin McRoberts added 15 points and senior Ian Kowal 14 for the Hilltoppers.
