MINNEAPOLIS — The Aquinas High School boys basketball team had the chance to play at the Target Center on Saturday, and it took full advantage of the opportunity.
The Blugolds extended an 11-point halftime lead into an 83-61 victory over Winona Cotter.
Aquinas (17-3), which is sixth in Division 3 for this week’s Bound Wisconsin/Zaleski Sports media poll, won their second game in a row and for the fifth time in six games.
Junior Calvin Bahr scored 14 of his team-high 24 points in the first half and made 10 of 11 free throws.
Senior Logan Becker added 19 points and had 15 of those after halftime. Senior Ryan Johnson also scored 13 points for Aquinas, which also received two 3-pointers and eight first-half points from senior Talan Reinhart.
The Blugolds next play at home against Logan on Friday.
Apple Valley 61, Onalaska 58
ST. PAUL — The Hilltoppers (14-2) — ranked third in Division 2 — came up short to the SunDevils (12-6) at the Border Battle hosted by Hamline University.
Onalaska stormed back from a 16-poinit halftime deficit and had a one-point lead until Apple Valley scored four straight points with about a minute to go and held on for the win.
Sophomore Tyler Kowal scored a team-high 25 points, and senior Ian Kowal scored 16. Sophomore Gavin McRoberts added 11 points for Onalaska, which has a one-game lead om Aquinas and Central and plays at Luther (9-8) on Tuesday.
