ARCADIA — The G-E-T/Melrose-Mindoro boys wrestling team gave itself a Coulee Conference season championship by winning the conference meet hosted at Arcadia on Friday.
The Titans, who beat West Salem/Bangor for the dual championship last week, finished with nine individual champions on the way to 346.5 team points. The Catbirds were second (268) and Arcadia third (209.5).
G-E-T/Melrose-Mindoro received championship performances from freshman Evan Johnson (26-20, 106 pounds), senior Koda Purney (34-10, 120), senior Colton Koss (35-9, 132), junior Brody Banse (35-7, 144), senior Layne Fry (12-1, 150), senior Jayce Stetzer (40-6, 157), sophomore Merek Windsor (29-15, 165), junior Braden Peterson (23-4, 175) and junior Aaron Dunigan (38-4, 190).
Johnson beat West Salem/Bangor freshman Hunter Burns (20-15) 5-3 to win his title, and Fry pinned West Salem/Bangor junior Jarett Plomedahl (31-11) in 3 minutes for his.
Windsor won a wild 19-16 sudden victory over Arcadia’s David Aguilar (40-7) to win his bracket.
West Salem/Bangor won three brackets thanks to seniors Teghan Moore (42-5, 126), Caden Anderson (39-6, 215) and Kaiden Stello (39-11, 285). The Catbirds were without senior Mason Chambers (36-4), a powerhouse all season at 157.
Moore needed just 27 seconds to pin G-E-T/Melrose-Mindoro senior Gunnar Kremer (31-8) for his championship, and Anderson pinned his way through the field for his. Stello scored a big championship win over G-E-T/Melrose-Mindoro sophomore Brock Kaz (31-8) with a pin in 2:40.
