High school ski and snowboard: Vanderhorst, Gehrke double winners at Mt. La Crosse

LA CROSSE — Senior London Vanderhorst won both giant slalom girls snowboard races to help the Aquinas co-op team won both championships at Mt. La Crosse on Wednesday.

Vanderhorst, from West Salem, was timed at 23.71 seconds in the first race and 23.98 in the second to beat runner-up Ava Connaughty of the Central/Logan co-op in both runs. Connaughty was timed at 25.54 and 24.92.

The Aquinas co-op, which also includes Onalaska, West Salem and Luther, scored eight team points in each race.

Jonathon Gehrke, a junior from West Salem, won both of the boys ski races for AOWSL and helped the team to victory with 16 points in the first race and 10 in the second. Gehrke has won every race of the season and was timed at 34.97 and 16.34 in the second. Central/Logan’s Cole Hasburgh was runner-up in the first race (37.23) and AOWSL’s Matthew Bennett the runner-up in the second (17.51).

Aquinas junior Brynn Grabowski won the second of two girls ski races with her time of 17.36. She was also third in the first race at 37.99.

Northern’s Julia McBride won the first race in 37.62 and was third in the second at 17.47. Northern’s Emilia Berg was runner-up in the first race (37.66) and Northern’s Alyssa Raven was runner-up in the second (17.38) as their team won both competitions with 12 and 15 points.

Cenral/Logan’s Charles Head won the first boys snowboard race in 25.48, and teammate Maxwell Willis was victorious in the second (25.84).

AOWSL’s Ryan Nummerdor Robles was runner-up in the first race (25.61) and AOWSL’s Braxton Wiczek was second in the second race (26.19).

Central/Logan won both team titles with eight points in the first race and 10 in the second.
