Tuesday boys basketball: Onalaska reaches century mark in win over Logan

ONALASKA — Sophomore Tyler Kowal scored 28 points to lead the Onalaska High School boys basketball team to a 100-75 MVC victory over visiting Logan on Tuesday.

The Hilltoppers (13-0 overall, 7-0 MVC) kept sole possession of first place in the conference and completed a regular-season sweep of the Rangers (2-12, 1-6).

Onalaska is first among Division 2 teams in the Bound Wisconsin/Zaleski Sports media poll this week and also received 20 points from senior Ian Kowal, 14 from junior Brendan Chenault and 12 from senior Rowan McGrath.

Logan was led by sophomore Tommy Check’s 24 points. Senior Dio Leone added 19 points and sophomore Henry Bosch 11.

The Hilltoppers next play third-place Aquinas (14-2, 5-2) at home on Friday.

Central 65, Holmen 56

HOLMEN — The RiverHawks (11-2, 6-1 MVC) maintained second place in the conference standings by beating the Vikings (10-6, 3-4) at the Bernie L. Ferry Fieldhouse.

Senior Joey Pretasky scored a team-high 13 points, and juniors Gabe Servais and Anthony Jones added 12 apiece for Central — ranked eighth in Division 2 of the Bound Wisconsin/Zaleski Sports media poll — in its seventh straight victory.

Senior Alex Berget scored a game-high 21 for Holmen, which also received 10 from junior Jax Meyer.

West Salem 78, New Richmond 63

WEST SALEM — The Panthers (12-2) were without senior guard Nate Dillaber, but senior Tyson Labus poured in 28 points to help them to a good nonconference win over the Tigers (9-4).

West Salem outscored New Richmond by 11 points in the second half and also received three 3-pointers and 17 points from junior Elliott Corcoran made all of his 3s in the second half and had 11 of his points after halftime.

Junior Drew McConkey also had an 11-point second half and finished with 15 points for West Salem, which plays Luther on Thursday and Saturday.

Aquinas 95, Sparta 60

SPARTA — The Blugolds — fifth in Division 3 for this week’s Bound Wisconsin/Zaleski Sports media poll — beat the Spartans for the second time this season.

Aquinas is 14-2 overall and 5-2 in the MVC entering its game Friday at first-place Onalaska.

Junior Calvin Bahr scored a team-high 21 points for the Blugolds, who led 49-33 at the half. Senior Finley Strom added 19 points, and junior Henry Berns (13) and senior Logan Becker (12) joined them in double figures.

Senior Ryan Johnson and sophomore Roman Kirchner also scored nine for Aquinas.

Caledonia 73, Crestwood 57

CRESTWOOD — The Warriors (11-6) won their third game in a row.
