ROCHESTER — The Aquinas High School boys basketball team ran its winning streak to seven games with a 71-35 victory at Rochester Lourdes on Saturday.
The Blugolds (10-1), who are fourth in Division 3 for this week’s Bound Wisconsin/Zaleski Sports media poll, bult a 40-16 lead in the first half and used seven 3-pointers to take care of the Eagles (2-11).
Junior Calvin Bahr made two of those 3-pointers and scored a team-high 22 points for Aquinas, which has won all of its games since a defeat at the hands of MVC-leading Onalaska — ranked second in Division 2 — on Dec. 20.
Senior Finley Strom added 15 points and senior Logan Becker 12 for the Blugolds. Becker also made two 3s.
Bahr scored 20 points in the first half and Strom 10 in the second.
Ellsworth 91, Logan 88
LA CROSSE — The Rangers (1-8) trailed by double figures in each half before coming back but couldn’t overtake the Panthers at the Steve Hole Field House.
Sophomore Henry Bosch led Logan with 25 points.
Senior Dio Leone added 16 and junior Jameson Degenhardt 15. Senior Harper Kendle and sophomore Tommy Check each scored 10 for the Rangers, who lost their second straight game and host Central (5-2, 3-1 MVC) on Tuesday.
GIRLS
Ellsworth 58, Logan 46
LA CROSSE — The Rangers (2-9) lost their third game in a row in a contest that includes 56 free throws at the Steve Hole Field House.
Logan made 12 of 23 attempts from the foul line and the Panthers 21 of 33 attempts.
Ellsworth had a 30-17 lead after one half and maintained the advantage the rest of the way.
Junior Emma Bacon scored all 13 of her team-high points for the Rangers in the second half. She made two 3-pointers.
Senior Kenna Streeck added 12 — six in each half — with four 3-pointers.
