Thursday hockey: Avalanche run winning streak to five games

ONALASKA — The Avalanche are hitting their stride and pushed their boys hockey winning streak to five games on Thursday.

The co-op, which includes players from Holmen, Aquinas, G-E-T, Onalaska Luther and C-FC, scored three goals in the first period and three more in the second on the way to a 7-1 Western Wisconsin Hockey Conference victory over West Salem/Bangor at the OmniCenter.

The Avalanche (7-6, 2-2) have beaten their past five opponents by a combined score of 23-6 and didn’t allow the Panthers (0-9-1, 0-3-1) to score until early in the third period.

Jack Barth, Sawyer Genz and Cole Van Lin, all seniors from Holmen, scored twice each for thee Avalanche, whose last loss was on Dec. 26. Genz also assisted on two goals and Van Lin one as their team built a 33-15 advantage in shots.

Dane Adams, a junior goaltender from Holmen, stopped 14 shots and has allowed one goal while stopping 33 shots in his last two games.

Charlie Kirchner, a junior from Aquinas, also scored a goal for the Avalanche. Jack Franzini chipped in with three assists, and James Siegert, Jaxson Reilly, Corbin Meyer and Luke Boberg had one each.

Onalaska/La Crosse 6, Black River Falls 0

BLACK RIVER FALLS — Junior Parker Tripp, a junior goaltender from Central, stopped all 28 shots sent his way to shut out the Tigers and give the first-place Hilltoppers (8-1, 3-0 WWHC) their fourth victory in a row.

Samuel Hanson, a sophomore from Central, scored two goals for the co-op, which also received one goal each from Connor Fecht, Carter Johnson, Grayson Andel and Jackson Egan. Johnson and Andel also recorded one assist each.

Alex Sammann had two assists, and Hudson Smith, Liam Branson, Zach Marso and Noah Witcik had one.
