GALESVILLE — The West Salem High School boys basketball team certainly wasn’t happy surrendering 100 points in a nonconference loss to D.C. Everest on Saturday.

So the Panthers took that out on Coulee Conference rival G-E-T and handed the Red Hawks their first loss of the season.

West Salem (6-1, 2-0) scored 13 of the first 15 points behind strong play from seniors Tyson Labus and Spencer Kammel, and Drew McConkey hit a couple of 3-pointers to help stretch a 27-20 lead to 44-28 at the end of the first half.

G-E-T (8-1, 2-1) struggled to get typical production rom seniors Mason Brone and Travis Theisen, who were combining for 30 points per game and scored a total of eight against the Panthers.

McConkey finished with 21 points and Labus 20 for West Salem, which also received 13 from Kammel.

Logan 85, Prairie du Chien 58

LA CROSSE — The Rangers (1-6) picked up their first win of the season and extended a 13-point halftime lead throughout the second half at the Steve Hole Field House.

Logan controlled the game with its defense and ball movement and was led by junior Ryan Thurman’s 17 points. Thurman made three 3-pointers in the game and scored 11 of his points in the second half.

Junior Jameson Degenhardt added 15 points and sophomore Tommy Check 13 for the Rangers, who will shoot for their second straight win when they host Aquinas on Friday.

Onalaska 64, Central 53

LA CROSSE — The Hilltoppers (6-0, 3-0 MVC) used a 17-2 run in the first half to take control of the RiverHawks (4-2, 2-1) at the Mark Sutton Memorial Gymnasium.

Senior Ian Kowal scored 18 points for Onalaska, which is second in Division 2 for this week’s Bound Wisconsin/Zaleski Sports media poll. He had 13 in the first 9 minutes, 17 seconds and keyed the 17-2 run with a couple of 3-pointers.

Read more about this game, which included a 21-point performance by Central junior Gabe Servais, in a separate story on the website.

Aquinas 78, Tomah 50

TOMAH — The Blugolds (8-1, 2-1 MVC), who are fourth in Division 3 for this week’s Bound Wisconsin/Zaleski Sports media poll, broke open an 11-point game in the second half.

Junior Calvin Bahr scored a team-high 24 points for Aquinas, which led 36-25 after one half and held the Timberwolves to 25 points in each half.

Bahr scored 12 points in each half, and senior Logan Becker scored 13 of his 22 in the second half. Becker finished with four of his team’s 10 3-pointers. Senior Finley Strom added 13 points for the Blugolds, who have won five games in a row.

Holmen 59, Sparta 56

SPARTA — The Vikings (7-3, 1-1 MVC) ran their winning streak to four games by outscoring the Spartans by five points in the second half.

Holmen shot just 35 percent from the floor and made only 4 of 27 attempts from the 3-point line, but junior Jax Meyer made all three of his 3-pointers and scored 13 points to go with 11 rebounds.

Senior Alex Berget also had 13 points, five rebounds and three steals for Holmen, which plays at Onalaska on Friday.

Sophomore Cohen Kendhammer added 11 points and six rebounds and junior Jayden Bartels 10 points and seven rebounds for the Vikings.

Caledonia 71, P-E-M 60

PLAINVIEW — The Warriors (7-3, 5-0 Three Rivers-East) won for the second time in three games and will look for their second straight win at St. Charles on Thursday.

Sophomore Grant King scored a team-high 21 points for Caledonia, which trailed 32-31 at halftime before outscoring P-E-M by 12 the rest of the way.

King made four of the Warriors’ seven 3-pointers.

Junior Jacoby Hammell added 16 points and sophomore Griffin Gantenbein 15 for Caledonia.
