WAUPUN — Senior Logan Sauter’s second goal of the night was the big one as the Onalaska/La Crosse boys hockey team beat Waupun 4-3 in overtime at the Waupun Ice Arena on Saturday.
Sauter, a senior at Central, scored his team’s first and last goals in a game where it outshot its opponent by a 44-26 margin.
Sauter scored his eighth and ninth goals unassisted at even strength, and the winner came at 7 minutes, 46 seconds into overtime after Waupun tied the game at 3 early in the third period. Sauter’s first goal came 6 minutes into the second period and tied the game at 1.
Liam Branson, a junior from Central, and Noah Witcik, a sophomore from Onalaska, also scored once each for the Hilltoppers (7-1), who have won three games in a row. Branson tied the game at 2 with an assist from Rylan Tomashek late in the second, and Witcik gave Onalaska a 3-2 lead with an assist from Grayson Andel early in the third.
Goaltender Parker Tripp, a junior from Central, stopped 23 shots for the Hilltoppers.
Avalanche 3, Hayward 0
ONALASKA — The co-op team of players from Holmen, Aquinas, G-E-T, Onalaska Luther and C-FC, pushed its winning streak to three games with a win at the OmniCenter.
The Avalanche (5-6), who host La Crescent-Hokah on Tuesday, received shutout goaltending from Dane Adams, a junior from Holmen with 19 saves.
Holmen seniors Jack Barth and Cole Van Lin and Aquinas sophomore James Siegert scored for the Avalanche, who had one goal in the first period and two in the second.
Barth started things off with assists from Siegert and Ayden Dirks, Van Lin continued with assists from Jaxon Reilly and Sawyer Genz, and Siegrt finished it with assists from Jack Franzini and Barth.
Siegert has 11 goals and five assists this season. Van Lin’s goal was his fifth and Barth’s his fourth.
