EAU CLAIRE — The Holmen High School boys basketball team rode the momentum of a strong first half to a 78-64 nonconference victory at Eau Claire Memorial on Saturday.

The Vikings (6-3) jumped out to a 15-point lead after one half and coasted to their third straight victory since a two-point loss to West Salem.

The Old Abes (3-6) only cut minimally into the deficit during the second half as Holmen made 22 of 34 shots inside the 3-point line and made 53 percent (29 of 54) of its shots overall.

Senior Alex Berget and sophomore Cohen Kendhammer cored 18 points apiece for the Vikings, who also knocked down seven 3-pointers.

Kendhammer was 3 for 4 from the 3-point line and 6 for 7 overall, and junior Brody Wilber made 2 of 4 on his way to 10 points. Junior Jayden Bartels added 14 points, six rebounds and five steals for Holmen.

Senior Colin Williams led the Vikings, who play at Sparta on Tuesday, with seven rebounds and four assists.

RIVER FALLS — The Panthers (5-1) were beaten for the first time this season as the Evergreens (7-2) won for the fourth time in a row.

D.C. Everest held a 51-23 lead by halftime, and West Salem had trouble cutting very deeply into that even though it played a better second half.

The Panthers made nine 3-pointers but eight of those came after halftime. Seniors Tyson Labus and Nate Dillaber scored 19 and 17 points, respectively, for West Salem, and Dillaber had all of his in the second half.

Junior Drew McConkey added 13 points for the Panthers, who play at G-E-T (8-0) on Tuesday.

Belle Plaine 78, Caledonia 76

ROCHESTER — The Warriors (6-3) came up just short against an unbeaten nonconference opponent at Rochester Mayo.

Sophomore Grant King scored 28 points for Caledonia and pushed his area-leading scoring average to 22.2 points per game. He scored 55 points in two games this weekend.

King made three 3-pointers — in the first half — and scored 21 points before halftime.

Sophomore Griffin Gatenbein made two 3-pointers and added 12 points, while senior Zeke Gengler and junior Anthony Hahn added 11 and 10, respectively, in a game that was tied at 45 after one half.

Gengler and Hahn also made two 3-pointers each for Caledonia, which plays at P-E-M (3-4) on Tuesday.

River Falls 85, Logan 44

RIVER FALLS — The Wildcats (5-4) built a 17-point halftime lead, then scored 47 second-half points against the Rangers (0-6).
