Friday wrestling/hockey: West Salem/Bangor wins two Coulee Conference duals

WEST SALEM — The West Salem/Bangor wrestling team picked up three one-sided dual victories in a quadrangular hosted at West Salem High School on Friday.

The Catbirds won two Coulee Conference duals and one nonconference matchup with their closest encounter a 53-25 victory over Waukon (Iowa). West Salem/Bangor also beat Black River Falls 79-0 and Westby 75-4.

Junior Justice Elam (23-7) won all three of his matches at 175 pounds by pin, and sophomore Isaac Arentz (7-4) and senior Mason Chambers (24-3) won twice by pin at 215 and 157, respectively.

Seniors Caden Anderson (23-4, 190 pounds) and Teghan Moore (24-5, 132) each won once by pin and once by technical fall, and junior Jarett Plomedahl (18-6, 150) had a pin and a major decision.

WEST SALEM — The Tigers (5-5, 2-1) scored the final three goals of the third period, then Tristian Bible scored with assists from Andrew Gunderson and Lee Iverson 2 minutes, 30 seconds into overtime to beat the Panthers (0-8, 0-2) in overtime at the Panther Den.

West Salem/Bangor looked it was headed to its first win of the season after in answered a Black River Falls goal to open the game with four of its own. Junior Kayden Tauscher’s power-play strike — his second goal of the game — with assists from sophomore Berkley Brose and senior Cade Donahue gave the Panthers a 4-1 lead at the 9:31 mark of the third.

But Calvin Lakowske scored three times before the end of regulation — he scored the one in the first period, too — to tie the game and run his season total to 33 goals scored.

Senior Coen Knutson and Brose also scored for West Salem/Bangor, which was outshot 36-18.

Senior Terryn Boland, junior Braydon Baures and sophomore Henry Bakkum were also credited with one goal apiece for the Panthers,

Boland’s assist was his fifth of the season and Knutson’s goal his fourth. Tauscher’s goals were his first two of the season.
