CALEDONIA — The West Salem High School boys basketball team dug its way out of a 17-point first-half deficit to claim a 93-79 nonconference victory at Caledonia on Tuesday.
The Panthers (5-0) used three key 3-pointers from sophomore Vince Coppernoll during a four-minute stretch of the second half to complete the comeback that kept them undefeated.
The Warriors (5-2) had a two-game win streak snapped in a game that was tied at 44 after one half.
Coppernoll finished with 11 points for West Salem, which was led by a 28-point performance by senior Nate Dillaber. Dillaber scored 15 points in the first half and finished with four of the Panthers’ 10 3-pointers.
Junior Drew McConkey had 11 of his 15 in the first half and senior Tyson Labus seven of his nine in the second half.
Sophomore Grant King scored a game-high 29 points for Caledonia. He made three 3-pointers and scored eight points at the foul line. Senior Aaron Stemper added 18 points and senior Evan Milde 10 for the Warriors.
Aquinas Tournament
Aquinas 69, Maple Northwestern 49
LA CROSSE — The Blugolds (6-1), who are fifth in Division 3 in this week’s Bound Wisconsin/Zaleski Sports media poll, won their third game in a row and claimed the championship for their own tournament at the Reinhart Athletic Complex.
Aquinas led 34-17 at the end of the first half and was led by junior Calvin Bahr’s 18 points. Bahr scored 10 of his points in the first half and knocked down one 3-pointer.
Senior Logan Becker added 15 points with three 3-pointers, and senior Finley Strom scored 12 with six in each half.
Will Dickinson and Ryan Johnson had eight apiece, and Johnson made a 3-pinter in a six-point second half.
Wisconsin Dells Holiday Classic
Onalaska Luther 87, Ripon 61
WISCONSIN DELLS — The Knights (4-3) dominated the second half and never looked back in a win over the Tigers.
Luther jumped out to a 41-17 lead after one half and made nine 3-pointers in the game to complement a strong defensive effort.
Senior Max Huelskamp scored a team-high 15 points to lead five double-figure scorers. Junior Logan Pierce added 12, freshmen J.J. Abdul-Haqq and Javon Zenke 11 each and junior Jonny Holub 10.
Zenke also had 12 rebounds and four assists, and Holub matched the four assists.
The Knights shot 49 percent from the floor and made 24 of 28 free throws.
