PRAIRIE DU SAC — The Sauk Prairie High School girls basketball team may have found a way to contain Alahnna Simpson on Monday, but that didn’t pave the way to a victory over Central during the first day of the Sauk Prairie Holiday Classic.

Freshman Ellie Apuan stepped forward with 17 points, seven rebounds and five steals to help the RiverHawks, ranked sixth in Division 2 in the Bound Wisconsin/Zaleski Sports media poll, to a 43-32 victory that kept them unbeaten this season.

Central (7-0) plays Reedsburg (2-6) at 11 a.m. Tuesday in its final game of the calendar year.

Simpson, who is averaging 20.1 points per game as a senior, finished with eight points and four rebounds.

Junior Ellie Gillitzer also had eight points for the RiverHawks and added seven steals and five rebounds to her stat line in a game Central led 24-16 at the half.
