Friday girls basketball: Onalaska, Central, Caledonia pick up victories

ONALASKA — The Onalaska High School girls basketball team put together the right plan and executed it well to score a big nonconference victory on Friday.

The Hilltoppers (4-2) used a strong defensive effort and inside out attack to score a 62-35 win over visiting Blair-Taylor (6-2), which was fifth in Division 5 of the Bound Wisconsin/Zaleski Sports media poll this week.

Onalaska beat Logan by 25 points on Thursday before blowing out the Wildcats for its second consecutive victory.

Sophomore Kayla Ketelhut scored a team-high 21 points and she made a 3-pointer and scored 13 of them in the first half, which ended with a 35-16 Hilltoppers advantage. Onalaska held Blair-Taylor to five field goals before halftime.

Junior Olivia Passehl made three 3-pointers and added 11 points for Onalaska, which made six 3-pointers and also received 10 points from junior Natalie Marso.

Central 59, Holmen 26

LA CROSSE — The Vikings (3-3, 0-2 MVC) had another tough offensive night, and the RiverHawks (4-0, 1-0) won by at least 10 points for the third time in a row.

Central had a 30-7 lead at the end of the first half and was led by senior Alahnna Simpson’s 22 points and five assists.

Freshman Ellie Apuan added 12 points for the RiverHawks, who are sixth in Division 2 for this week’s Bound Wisconsin/Zaleski Sports media poll.

Caledonia 68, Fillmore Central 47

HARMONY — The Warriors (4-1, 3-0 Three Rivers-East) remained unbeaten in the conference and won their fourth game in a row.

Senior Aubrie Klug lit things up from the perimeter with four 3-pointers on her way to a game-high 28 points. She has knocked down eight 3-pointers and scored 62 points in Caledonia’s past two games.

Senior Nicole Banse added 12 points and junior Jessica Stendel eight for the Warriors.
