MANKATO — The West Salem co-op gymnastics team opened its season with a third-place finish at the Flip for a Cure Invitational in Mankato on Saturday.
The Panthers, a program that also includes Aquinas and Bangor, pieced together a team score of 136.7 and finished only behind Mankato East (141.6) and Mankato West (141.05). West Salem also had three of the top seven all-around performers in senior Camdyn Lyga, sophomore Brielle Moore and senior Olivia Maki.
Lyga was fifth with a score of 34.525. Moore (34.5) and Maki (33.95) followed in sixth and seventh.
Maki had the best individual event performance when she tied for second place on the vault with a 9.5. She was also seventh on the floor exercise (9.175).
Lyga was fifth on the floor exercise (9.175) and tied for seventh on the balance beam (8.625), while Moore was seventh on both the vault (9.05) and bars (8.175).
