The Holmen High School volleyball team won the first 31 matches of its season before a loss to eventual state semifinalist Waunakee in the WIAA Division 1 sectional finals.
Along the way, the Vikings (31-1) won the MVC championship, ran their conference win streak to 15 matches and won their fifth straight regional title.
That doesn’t happen without talent, and Holmen’s was showcased as the Wisconsin Volleyball Coaches Association released its All-State teams.
Holmen senior Macy Kline earned a spot on the Division 1 second team, and teammates Charley Casey and Moira Linse found homes elsewhere. Aquinas senior Sammy Davis and Onalaska Luther senior Kayla Schioebel are also All-State selections after their seasons put them on the Division 3 first team.
Onalaska senior Makena McGarry joins Casey and Linse on the Division 1 honorable mention list.
Kline, a UW-Green Bay commit, makes her third appearance on the teams and is now a two-time second-teamer. Davis, who will play basketball at Bradley University, was also a Division 3 first-teamer as a junior.
Kline, a libero, averaged 10.8 digs per match and 4.2 per set. She ranked third on the team in service aces (47) and had 75 assists.
Casey, who will play at UW-La Crosse, led the Vikings with 243 kills (3.2 per set), led the team with 56 service aces and ranked fourth in total blocks (14). She also had 188 digs.
Linse, who will be a Holmen leader as a senior next season, ranked fourth on the roster with 158 kills (1.9 per set) and led the way with 39 total blocks (33 solos). She also had 43 aces and 81 digs.
Davis was a menace for all Aquinas (16-15) opponents and finished her season with 505 kills (5.2 per set). Davis had a .268 hitting percentage, 320 digs, 40 aces and 36 total blocks.
McGarry ranked second for Onalaska (21-10) in kills with 234 (2.7 per set) and had 113 digs to go with 34 blocks.
Schiebel, who led the Knights (21-11) to the Division 3 state semifinals — their first WIAA state tournament — led her team with 289 kills (2.9 per set) and total blocks with 62 (22 solos).
