MSHSL football playoffs: Caledonia heads to Class AA state quarterfinals with Section 1 title

WINONA — The Caledonia High School football team is an MSHSL section champion for the 17th time after pushing it winning streak to eight games on Friday.

The third-seeded Warriors (9-2) scored all of their points after the first quarter and held third-seeded Rochester Lourdes to a second-quarter field goal for a 19-3 victory in the Section 1AA title game at Paul Giel Field.

Caledonia has qualified for a state quarterfinal game next weekend.

Senior Will Allen threw two touchdown passes, and senior Noah Schroeder rushed for a touchdown as Caledonia beat the Eagles for a second time this season.

Allen completed 6 of 10 passes for 77 yards, and senior Hunter Frank carried 13 times for 66 yards to lead Caledonia to 245 total yards. Junior Bodie Knutson added 59 yards on 11 carries for the Warriors, who haven’t lost since Week 3.

Allen completed a 3-yard touchdown pass to junior Jacoby Hammell for the first score of the game in the second quarter, and a 33-yard field goal cut Caledonia’s lead to 7-3 at halftime.

Allen threw a 29-yard touchdown pass to Hammell in the third quarter, and Schroeder scored from the 1 to give the Warriors their 16-point victory in the fourth.

Sophomore Cooper Allen led Caledonia with 11 tackles, and Hammell forced a fumble.
