Thursday volleyball report: Luther forces tie at top of Coulee Conference

WEST SALEM — The Onalaska Luther High School volleyball took over a share of the Coulee Conference lead by handing West Salem a 25-13, 11-25, 25-, 25-18, 25-23 defeat on Thursday.

The Knights (16-9 overall, 8-2 Coulee) are now tied with the Panthers (18-6, 8-2) for the conference lead. West Salem also beat Arcadia 25-11, 25-23, 26-24 in its first match of the day.

Sophomore Cara Unke had a team-high 18 kills for Luther, which avenged a 3-1 loss the first time the teams matched up this season. Sophomore Audrey Clark also had 11 kills for the Knights.

Senior Kayla Schiebel had eight kills to go with nine of Luther’s 16 blocks. Junior Addie Schaper had 36 assists and nine digs, while senior Kamryn Anderson had 20 digs and sophomore Carsyn Krause 13 digs for the Knights, who have won five straight matches since that loss to West Salem.

Senior Josie Brudos had a team-high 10 kills in the loss to Luther and a team-high seven in the win over Arcadia. Freshman Kensley Skifton had 13 kills and nine blocks in the two matches, while senior Addie Jehn had 21 assists vs. the Knights and sophomore Brooklyn Ghelfi 11 vs. the Raiders. Junior Addy Oldenburg had six kills against Arcadia.

Central 3, Sparta 1

SPARTA — The fourth-place RiverHawks (14-12, 6-5 MVC) pulled out a 25-19, 19-25, 25-21, 25-16 victory over the Spartans.

Junior Kaitlyn Borge recorded a team-high 13 kills for Central, which also received eight apiece from junior McKenna Michaels and junior Mady Young. Young also had 14 digs.

Junior Celia Christopherson had a team-high 19 digs to go with three aces, and junior Ellie Gillitzer led the RiverHawks in assists with 21 and added 15 digs.

Tomah 3, Logan 2

LA CROSSE — The Timberwolves pulled out a 25-14, 18-25, 24-26, 25-20, 15-11 victory over the Rangers (3-12, 0-10 MVC) at the Steve Hole Field House.

Senior Kaia Depoalo had a team-high 20 kills for Logan and added 12 digs and a service ace. Junior Lilly Dettwiler had 11 kills for the Rangers, who also received four kills, four blocks, four digs and two aces from junior Meredith Zellner.

Logan junior Norah Keller led her team in assists with 27, aces with 10 and digs with 14.

Melrose-Mindoro 3, Alma Center Lincoln 1

ALMA CENTER — The Mustangs (7-12, 4-4 Dairyland) pushed their conference record to .500 by winning their second match in a row and for the third time in their last five matchups.

Junior Bella Rozek had 18 kills and 15 digs, while senior Opal Buchanan had 21 assists as Melrose-Mindoro won 25-18, 21-25, 25-21, 25-17.

Senior Anna Radcliffe recorded 34 assists for Melrose-Mindoro.
