LA CROSSE — The La Crosse Lightning turned a fast start into their first WIAA postseason lacrosse victory at Swanson Field on Tuesday.
The Lightning (7-5), who are seeded 16th in the regional tournament, beat 17th-seeded Green Bay Notre Dame 11-4 after scoring five goals in the first quarter. The team advances to a semifinal at top-seeded Waunakee (13-4) on Friday in a 7 p.m. start.
The co-operative program, which includes players from Aquinas, Central, Logan, Onalaska, Luther, Holmen and West Salem, was led by Central senior Grayson Veum on Tuesday. He finished with six goals to give himself 20 over the past three games.
Veum scored three of his team’s first four goals and gave it a quick answer after the Tritons scored first.
Central freshman Robbie Seehafer added two goals, and Luther junior Jax Hendrickson, Central senior CJ Kay and Central senior Charlie Seehafer all scored once apiece.
Veum and Robbie Seehafer each had two assists each, and Hendrickson and Charlie Seehafer had one apiece. Luther senior Brant Hundt had nine saves in goal for the Lightning.
