Monday softball report: Caledonia opens MSHSL postseason with shutout

CALEDONIA — The Caledonia High School softball team opened the MSHSL Section 1AA tournament with a 12-0 victory over visiting GMLOK on Monday.

The fourth-seeded Warriors (17-4) won their third game in a row and advanced to a second-round game against 12th-seeded Rochester Lourdes on Tuesday. That game begins at 5 p.m. and will be played at the Rochester Youth Fastpitch Softball Complex.

Caledonia scored four runs in the first inning and three in the second against the 13th-seeded Bulldogs, who only had one hit against freshman Avery Augedahl.

Augedahl struck out 12, walked two and allowed just one single in a complete game. She also went 2 for 4 with a triple, a home run, two RBIs and two runs scored.

Shortstop Lily Wiebke was 2 for 3 with a double and drove in a team-high three runs. Third baseman Paizley Lange was 2 for 2 and left fielder Lily Augedahl 2 for 3 with. Both scored two runs and recorded two stolen bases.

First baseman Elsa Blum drove in two runs, and Vivian Kittleson tripled for the Warriors, who had 13 hits.

Onalaska 5, Arcadia 1

ONALASKA — The Hilltoppers (16-5) ran their winning streak to four games with a victory over the Raiders (15-9).

Freshman Sydney Kraus was 2 for 3 with a double, a home run and three RBIs while pitching a two-hitter for Onalaska. She doubled to bring home two runs in a three-run first and led off the third with a solo homer.

Kraus also struck out 14, walked two and allowed one earned run in a complete game.

Catcher Lauren Pica and second baseman Kylie Gilhausen also went 2 for three and combined for four singles as Onalaska recorded seven hits and took advantage of four Arcadia errors.

The Raiders received a single apiece from catcher Tatum Drazkowski and third baseman Amaya Schlesser.

Aquinas 3, Holmen 1

HOLMEN — The Blugolds (10-11, 6-6) forced a third-place tie with the Vikings (7-12, 6-6) with their fourth win in six games.

Aquinas scored twice in the third inning and once in the fifth to counter a first-inning run from Holmen.

The Blugolds took the lead for good when second baseman Ella Deets doubled to score Kathryn Savoldelli and Ave Fernholz. Savoldelli reached on an error, and Fernholz was safe on a fielder’s choice, and Deets was 2 for 4.

Center fielder Tessa Miskowski’s RBI double in the fifth extended the lead. Savoldelli, who had singled, scored on that hit.

Abby Ziolkowski limited the Vikings to three hits — Kaitlyn Weiss doubled — and no runs after the first inning. The Vikings scored in the first when Taylor Everson knocked in Macy Kline.

Ziolkowski finished with five strikeouts and didn’t walk a batter. Holmen’s Gabi Stuhr struck out seven, walked one and allowed six hits over seven innings.

G-E-T 14, Logan 10

LA CROSSE — The Rangers (5-18) scored six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning but gave up four in the top of the eighth.

Catcher Maria Weber was 4 for 5 with a home run and two RBIs for Logan, which had 16 hits but made six errors that led to 13 unearned runs for the Red Hawks, who placed second in the Coulee Conference.

Mariana Rojo was 3 for 5 and scored twice, and Sophie Schmitz doubled twice for the Rangers, who also received two hits and two RBIs from Sarah Johnson and two hits from Kaia DePaolo. Emma Bacon also drove in two runs.

Logan had six hits during its six-run seventh and tied the game at 10 when Weber smacked a two-out, two-run homer to center. Bacon put Weber in position to tie the game with a two-run double to left field on the previous at-bat.
