Saturday baseball report: Second-ranked Aquinas sweeps Pacelli in nonconference DH

STEVENS POINT — The Aquinas High School baseball team had its bats going Saturday during a nonconference doubleheader sweep of Stevens Point Pacelli.

The Blugolds, ranked second in Division 2 by state coaches, turned 24 hits into 27 runs in a 13-6, 14-0 sweep of the Cardinals.

Aquinas pushed its record to 16-3 as it prepares to battle Holmen for a piece of MVC title on Monday and Thursday.

The Vikings own first place with a 10-0 record, and the Blugolds follow at 8-2. They play at Lee Gilbert Field on Monday (4:30 p.m.) and at Holmen on Thursday (5:30 p.m.).

Infielder Isaac Schelfhout hit a home run and had three RBIs, and catcher Jacob Thornton singled twice and drove in three runs in the first game, which included 15 Aquinas hits. Jonny Deets had three hits, two stolen bases and scored four runs, and Cullen Sackman was 3 for 3 with a double, two RBIs and three runs scored.

Landon Teachout added a 3-for-4 performance with a double, a stolen base and two RBIs, and Waylon Hargrove stole three bases.

Aedan David pitched a three-hitter in the second game, striking out four without walking a batter. He also hit a home run.

Teachout was 2 for 3 with four RBIs, and Hargrove walked twice, scored twice and drove in two runs. Deets also hit a double.

Eau Claire North 6, Central 3
Menomonie 10, Central 0 (6)

LA CROSSE — The RiverHawks (3-16) lost a pair of nonconference games at Viterbo Athletic Fields.
Left fielder Landon Smith was 2 for 4 and drove in two runs for Central against the Huskies.

Pitcher/right fielder Dawson Lapic also had a hit and an RBI, and shortstop/pitcher Aiden Schulze and first baseman Erik Ramseier added two hits apiece for the RiverHawks.

Parker Tripp and Derrick Pangier each had two hits against the Mustangs, but Central made seven errors in that game.

Eau Claire North 12, Logan 0 (5)

LA CROSSE — The Rangers (12-10) gave up two runs in the top of the eighth against the Tigers and had just four hits against the Huskies.

Shortstop Bradley Check went 4 for 4 with an RBI, and Jackson Bosch hit a solo home run against Marshfield. Tommy Check also doubled.

Tommy Check was 2 for 2 with a double against Eau Claire North, but four errors by the Rangers allowed the Huskies to pull away.

Waunakee 9, Holmen 1

HOLMEN — The Vikings (14-7-1) gave up a run in the top of the seventh inning to lose to the Tigers and had just four hits and made three errors against the Warriors.

Center fielder Tyler Rosenow was 2 for 3 with a double, and first baseman Noah Oswald doubled and drove in two runs against Marshfield. Kekoa Rodgers tripled and drove in a run.

Abe Henderson hit two doubles, and Brennon Metzler drove him in after one of them for Holmen’s run against Waunakee, which pulled away with a five-run second inning.

West Salem 10, Belleville 7
Baraboo 10, West Salem 3

BELLEVILLE — The Panthers (8-11) split a couple of nonconference games.

The Panthers had 13 hits against Belleville, and shortstop Drew McConkey was 3 for 4 with a home run, a double and five RBIs. Second baseman Parker Demorest was 3 for 4 and scored twice, and Terryn Boland and Luke Grube each added two hits. Boland doubled, and Jax Vick drove in two runs.

Vix and Aidan Hillyer were both 2 for 3 against the Thunderbirds. Nate Stefferud drove in a run.

Pine Island 1, Caledonia 0

CALEDONIA — The Warriors (14-6) closed out their regular season and lost by allowing one fourth-inning run.

Caledonia had four hits, and Tanner Ginther had a double for the only one that went for extra bases.

Garrett Konz pitched for Caledonia and struck out 11 without a walk during a four-hitter.

Whitehall 12, Arcadia 3

ARCADIA — The Raiders (9-12) were held to three hits.

Max Sobbotta doubled for Arcadia, which allowed seven runs during the fourth inning. Deklyn Grzadzielewski, Juan Barrientos and Ben Lightfoot each drove in a run for the Raiders.
