Tuesday softball report: Onalaska uses big day from Heit to beat Rangers

LA CROSSE — The Onalaska High School softball team scored in all but two innings on the way to a 9-2 MVC win at Logan on Tuesday.

The second-place Hilltoppers (14-5, 9-2) had at least one hit from each spot in the batting order and were led by freshman right fielder MJ Heit, who was 4 for 5 with two triples and two RBIs.

Shortstop Qita Olson, center fielder Jenna Gansen, catcher Lauren Pica and left fielder Alexa Larson all had two hits, and Olson matched Heit’s two RBIs. Olson, Pica and Larson all doubled.

Freshman Sydney Kraus pitched a complete game and struck out nine for Onalaska. She allowed two earned runs on four hits and two walks.

The Rangers (4-15, 1-8) were led by first baseman Kaia DePaolo, who tripled and drove in a run.

Aquinas 4, Central 0

LA CROSSE — The Blugolds (7-9, 4-6) won for the third time in four games and received two-hit pitching from Abby Ziolkowski, who struck out eight and walked three.

Tessa Miskowski as 3 for 4 with a double and Ava Fernholz 2 for 3 and drove in a run on a squeeze bunt. Ziolkowski added a double and Kathryn Savoldelli a triple for the Blugolds, who scored the first two runs of the game in the third inning.

Melrose-Mindoro 10, Osseo-Fairchild 0 (5)

MELROSE — Nine players had one hit apiece for the Mustangs (16-3, 11-2), who lead the Large Division of the Dairyland Conference.

Second baseman Bella Rozek hit a home run and had two RBIs for Melrose-Mindoro, which received one-hit pitching from Emma Severson.

Severson struck out four without walking a batter and stole a base for the Mustangs. Kelsey Young added a double.

Arcadia 3, Viroqua 2

VIROQUA — The Raiders (15-7, 10-2) put the pressure on first-place West Salem (15-4, 10-1) to beat G-E-T on Thursday if it wants to win the Coulee title outright.

Catcher Tatum Drazkowski was 2 for 4, and pitcher Kaitlyn Bremer, left fielder Sacia Boland and second baseman Madison Grotjahn each drove in a run for Arcadia, which scored twice in the second inning and once in the third. Boland also doubled.

Bremer struck out four, walked one and allowed seven hits for the Raiders.

La Crescent-Hokah 5, Caledonia 1

CALEDONIA — The Lancers scored three in the fifth inning and two more in the seventh to beat the Warriors (14-4).

Third baseman Paizley Lange was 2 for 3, but Caledonia was only able to register five hits and struck out 12 times.
