Tuesday track and field report: Schmeling, Wickus win titles for Luther at Bruce Brewer Invitational

BANGOR — The Onalaska Luther High School boys placed fourth and its girls fifth at the Bruce Brewer track and field invitational hosted by Bangor on Tuesday.

The Knights scored 72 in a 16-team boys field that was won by Mauston (105.5). The girls scored 52.5 in a 15-team field that was won by Westby (119.5).

Melrose-Mindoro’s boys were sixth (44) and its girls eighth (39).

Luther senior Jack Schmeling was the top local individual boys performer with his victory in the discus (160 feet, 3 inches). He also placed third in the 300-meter hurdles (42.51 seconds) and fourth in the 100 (11.47) and long jump (20-0).

Senior teammate Nathan Dobberstein added second-place finishes in the 110 hurdles (16.36) and 300 hurdles (42.8). He was also third in the high jump (5-10).

Nathan Jordahl adde a third place in the pole vault (11-6), Kayden VanLoon was fourth in the shot put (42-2.5) and siscus (122-11) to go with a fourth-place finish from Ayden Livingston, Joshua Rogne, Jack Erickson and Isaac Killip in the 400 relay (46.95) for the Knights.

The Mustangs were led in the boys meet by Collin Christian’s fourth-place finish in the pole vault (11-6), and Christianson, Landon Windsor, Jackson Boese and Brooks Cowley’s third-place time of 1:35.45 in the 800 relay.

Luther senior Lauren Wickus led girls competitors by winning the high jump (5-2), placing second in the 400 (1:01.99) and finishing fourth in the long jump (16-8.75).

Melrose-Mindoro sophomore Bristol Coats was second in the 300 hurdles (49.61), third in the 100 (12.95) and long jump (16-9) and fourth in the 200 (27.2).

Luther’s Jacee Erickson was third in the pole vault (9-6) and teammate Jayda Livingston fourth in the 100 hurdles (17.01).

Melrose-Mindoro’s Sheila Johnson was third in the high jump (5-0) and teammate Isabella Libke fourth in the pole vault (8-6).
