Friday softball report: Arcadia blanks Central for fifth straight win; Brudos no-hits Westby

LA CROSSE — The Arcadia High School softball team used the top of its batting order and the pitching arm of Kaitlyn Bremer to score a 10-0 nonconference victory over Central at State Road Fields on Friday.

Bremer tossed a complete game and struck out five while allowing five hits and not walking a batter in the seven-inning game. She also doubled and scored two runs as the Raiders (10-5) won their fifth game in a row.

The top four batters in Arcadia’s lineup each had one hit and combined to drive in five runs and score seven. Center fielder Kiley Fitzpatrick, batting at the bottom of the order, was also 2 for 3 in a game that included a home run by shortstop Layna Wozney and doubles by Bremer and catcher Tatum Drazkowski.

Shortstop Ellie Gillitzer was 2 for 3 for Central (5-10).

Aquinas 14, Viroqua 4 (5)

LA CROSSE — The Blugolds (5-8) used 13 hits and a six-run fourth inning to take care of the Blackhawks at Pammel Creek and get back on the winning path after losing two straight games.

Second baseman Ella Deets was 4 for 4 with a double, two-run home run and five RBIs for Aquinas, which scored five runs in the first inning and pushed its lead over 10 with six in the fourth.

Kathryn Savoldelli, Ava Fernholz and Ava Scholze were all 2 for 4, and Fernholz doubled. Tessa Miskowski scored three runs and stole two bases for the Blugolds.

Brynn Grabowski pitched a complete game for Aquinas and allowed seven hits.

West Salem 11, Westby 0 (5)

WESTBY — The second-place Panthers (10-4, 6-1) kept the pressure on first-place G-E-T (6-0) with a one-sided victory over the Norsemen.

Junior Josie Brudos pitched a no-hitter and went 3 for 3 with a triple and three RBIs for West Salem
Brudos hit an RBI triple in the first inning, brought home a run on a sacrifice fly in the second and had an RBI single in the third for the Panthers, who scored 10 runs in the first three innings. She also struck out 10 batters, walked none and was one error away from a perfect game.

Second baseman MacLaine Heilman doubled and scored three runs for West Salem.

Logan 13, Luther 3 (6)

LA CROSSE — The Rangers (3-12) ended a three-game losing streak and scored five runs in the fifth inning and three more in the sixth to beat the Knights (6-8).

Catcher Maria Weber was 3 for 5 with two runs scored and two driven in for Logan, which had 14 hits and seven players drive in at least one run. The Rangers also received at least one hit from every player in the lineup.

Norah Keller and Norah Reineking were both 2 for 3 and Sophie Schmitz 2 for 4 while Emma Bacon drove in three runs for Logan. Mariana Rojo and Schmitz each had two RBIs.

Keira Paus was 2 for 3 with two RBIs for Luther. Amanda Yonkovich and Kayla Schultz also had two hits for the Knights, who scored in the third, fourth and sixth innings and were held without an extra-base hit.
