TODD SOMMERFELDT

HOLMEN — A late comeback in the first game came up short for the Holmen High School baseball team on Friday, but a rally by Chippewa Falls near the end of the second game forced a tie.

The Cardinals collected the last out after the Vikings scored twice in the bottom of the seventh inning to earn a 3-2 victory before scoring single runs in the sixth and seventh to force a 3-3 tie when the second game went into the eighth inning.

First baseman Abe Henderson and center fielder Tyler Rosenow each drove in a run to give Holmen a 3-1 lead in the second game before Chippewa Falls scored the final two runs to force extra innings and a tie.

Alex Goryl, Joe Meeter and Noah Oswald combined to strike out five and allow one earned run for the Vikings (2-1-1).

Third baseman Nolan Mashak drove in one run, and a bad pickoff throw to first base resulted in another run during the seventh inning of the first game. Mashak and shortstop Brennon Metzler were both 2 for 3 in that game.

Wisconsin Rapids 10, Aquinas 3

WISCONSIN RAPIDS — The Blugolds (3-2) couldn’t come back after allowing five runs in the bottom of the first innings and four more in the bottom of the fourth.

Second baseman Isaac Schelfhout and first baseman Waylon Hargrove each drove in a run for Aquinas, which received two hits each from Hargrove and center fielder Cullen Sackman.

The Blugolds made three errors and scored all of their runs in the top of the fifth.

ONALASKA — The Knights (0-3, 0-2) were shut out on three hits and allowed single runs in the top of the first, third and fifth innings.
