WINONA — The Holmen High School boys and girls track and field teams placed among the top three at the Early Red Bird Invitational hosted by Saint Mary’s University on Friday.
The Vikings were second among eight boys teams with 101.5 points and third among eight girls teams with 79. West Salem’s girls (67) and boys (54.5) were both fourth.
Holmen swept the 200-meter dash with victories from sophomores Jacob Simmons (24.65 seconds) and Chloe Jones (28.97). Simmons also tied for second place in the high jump (5 feet, 4 inches).
Holmen’s girls also won the 1,600 relay in 4:45.46, and its boys second in the same event with a time of 3:58.67.
West Salem freshman Brielle Moore won the triple jump (30-6), and Central freshman Charlotte Yard won the 1,600 in 6:21.57.
The area received second-place finishes from West Salem’s Jackson Seberg in the 55 (7.01), Central’s Kaitlyn Bjorge in the shot put (30-0.25), Holmen’s Tristan Walter in the shot put (36-8.5), West Salem’s Victoria Lynse in the 1,600 (6:25.17), West Salem’s Graham Sjoquist in the 800 (2:23.1) and West Salem’s Owen McKinney in the 1,600 (5:06.8)..
Holmen’s boys 800 relay (1:43.73) also placed second.
West Salem’s Elise Schwarz (1,600, 6:25.8), Holmen’s Landon Berg (55, 7.08), Holmen’s Natalie Hulett (55 hurdles, 10.47), Holmen’s Grant Bires (pole vault, 10-0), Holmen’s Alyxann Weiss (high jump, 4-8), West Salem’s Evan Berra (3,200, 11:05.61), West Salem’s Nathan Chambers (200, 29.7) and Holmen’s girls 800 relay (2:01.93) all finished third.
West Salem’s Tavaryies Henderson placed third in the triple jump (37-3) and fourth in the high jump (5-4).
