ST. PAUL — The Caledonia High School girls basketball team gave itself a chance to play for the Class AA consolation championship at the MSHSL state tournament with a victory over Barnseville at the Gangelhoff Center on Thursday.
The sixth-seeded Warriors (28-4) bounced back from a quarterfinal loss to third-seeded Minnehaha Academy on Wednesday night with a 76-64 victory over the seventh-seeded Trojans (22-8).
Caledonia used a big first half from senior Josie Foster to take a 40-30 lead and made 15 of 21 free throws in the second half to maintain the advantage. Foster finished with a team-high 27 points, while juniors Aubrie Klug and Nicole Banse added 16 and 15, respectively.
Foster made three 3-pointers and Klug two as the Warriors advanced to play fourth-seeded Sauk Centre (28-3) in the consolation championship. That game will be played Friday at the Gangelhoff Center and tip off at 2 p.m.
