MSHSL section wrestling: Caledonia/Houston advances two to state meet

ROCHESTER — The Caledonia/Houston co-op boys wrestling team will have two individuals representing it at the MSHSL Class AA state wrestling tournament next week.

The Warriors received second-place finishes from junior Aiden Burns and senior Braxton Lange at the 1AA section meet at the Mayo Civic Center in Rochester on Saturday. The state tournament begins Wednesday and runs through Saturday at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.

Burns (27-9) advanced at 114 pounds after winning two of three matches. He advanced to the championship bout, which he lost to Zumbrota-Mazeppa’s Samuel Moore but earned second place without a wrestleback due to his pin of Kasson-Mantorville’s Zeke Ranvek in the semifinal round.

Lange (20-3) emerged with second place at 133 after winning two of three matches. He pinned his quarterfinal opponent and beat Pine Island’s Sam Muller (26-13) 4-2 in the semifinal round. Lange lost a 7-0 decision to Kasson-Mantorville’s Aiden Friedrich (36-5) in the championship and claimed second place with the win over Muller.

The Warriors also received a third-place finish from Will Allen (23-12, 152), fourth-place finishes from Aaren Kulas (11-21, 121), Cooper Allen (28-8, 189) and Aden Kulas *23-11, 285) and a fifth-place performance from Tanner Ginther (10-3, 139).
