Thursday hockey report: West Salem/Bangor boys, Coulee Region girls knocked out of WIAA postseason

SOMERSET — The West Salem/Bangor boys hockey team scored once in the first period but had its season ended by the Somerset co-op in a WIAA Division 2 regional on Thursday.

The Panthers (4-15) received a goal in the first period, but Somerset scored four times by the end of the first on the way to a 6-1 victory.

Senior Trent Meyer scored West Salem/Bangor’s goal short-handed and unassisted to cut Somerset’s lead to 3-1 at 9 minutes, 51 seconds of the first. The Spartans scored one more time in the first and twice in the third.

The Panthers had nine shots in the third period but were outshot 31-16.

GIRLS

Somerset co-op 3, Coulee Region 0

SOMERSET — The Cyclones (4-16) were outshot 32-14 and allowed one goal in each period of a regional loss.
Grace Johnsrude had 17 saves for Coulee Region.
