The West Salem High School girls basketball team has played in two straight WIAA state tournaments, and another strong regular season was rewarded on Sunday with a No. 1 seed for the upcoming Division 2 postseason.
The Panthers (17-4), who have a one-game lead on Onalaska Luther with two to play in the race for the Coulee Conference championship, receive a first-round bye and will play either eighth-seeded Logan (4-18) or ninth-seeded Tomah (1-21) in a semifinal on Feb. 28.
The Rangers and Timberwolves meet in a quarterfinal on Feb. 25.
Central (17-5) is a second seed in Division 2 and will host either seventh-seeded Reedsburg (10-12) or 10th-seeded Portage (4-18) on Feb. 28.
Onalaska (11-11) earned a fourth seed and hosts fifth-seeded Sauk Prairie (12-10) in a semifinal on Feb. 28.
Aquinas (19-3), which has won 18 games in a row and 11 straight MVC championships, is seeded second in Division 4 and has a bye through the quarterfinals. The Blugolds will host either seventh-seeded Melrose-Mindoro (13-9) or 10th-seeded Augusta (5-17) on Feb. 28.
Onalaska Luther (17-4) owns a No. 5 seed in Division 4 and hosts 12th-seeded Osseo-Fairchild (2-19) in a quarterfinal on Feb. 25.
Holmen (10-11) is seeded ninth in Division 1 and with play at eighth-seeded Marshfield (12-11) on Feb. 28. Marshfield beat Holmen 60-50 earlier this season.
Arcadia (12-10) is a fifth seed in Division 3 and plays at fourth-seeded Bloomer (13-9) on Feb. 28.
