WIARA state ski and snowboard: Callaway a snowboard champion for third straight year

LA CROSSE — Bodie Callaway had another dominant day at Mt. La Crosse, and it put him on top of the state snowboard scene … again.

Callaway swept the snowboard events during the WIARA state ski and snowboard meet Saturday — the first of three days of racing at Mt. La Crosse.

Callaway became a state champion for the third year in a row for the Aquinas/Onalaska/West Salem program and won every race to become the overall winner ahead of teammate Will Bakkestuen.

Callaway won the boardercross with a run of 33.89 seconds and followed it up with winning times of 42.42 in the boarder giant slalom and 26.82 in the boarder slalom for the top spot in the combined standings as the A/O/WS team placed fourth among 10 competing with a score of 220.

Bakkestuen was second overall and highlighted his day with a second-place run in the boarder giant slalom (48.0). He was also third in the boarder slalom (30.54).

Hartford was the team champion with a score of 101, and it was followed by Slinger (134) and West Bend (200). Logan/Central/Providence finished ninth (502).

A/O/WS’s Braxton Wiczek was 31st overall and teammate Carter Fortun 34th. Maxwell Willis was 36th, Charles Head 37th and Wesley Olson 38th for Logan/Central/Providence.

London VanderHorst placed third overall for A/O/WS, which was second out of seven teams with a score of 147. Slinger won with a score of 49.

VanderHorst was third in the boarder slalom (32.89), fourth in the boarder giant slalom (53.29) and seventh in the boardercross (39.88).

Tennyson Makepeace was 12th overall for A/O/WS with her best finish an eighth place in the boarder slalom (35.8).

Avah Connaughty, also of A/O/WS, was 16th overall, and teammate Jacee Erickson 20th overall with a sixth-place finish in the boardercross (39.6). Teammate Anna Moua was 23rd overall.
