ONALASKA — The Onalaska Luther boys basketball team scored the first 10 points of its nonconference game against visiting Melrose-Mindoro and turned it into a 78-37 victory on Saturday.
Senior Will Huelskamp scored 24 points on 11-for-14 shooting and grabbed seven rebounds for the Knights (16-5), who won their second game in a row and for the eighth time in the last nine games.
Luther had a 47-16 lead by the end of the first half and also received a 12-point, 19-rebounds performance from junior Max Huelskamp.
Senior Synclair Byus scored 11 points and had six rebounds for the Knights, who hoist Black River Falls in a Coulee Conference game on Tuesday.
GIRLS
Wauwatosa East 70, West Salem 56
WEST SALEM — The Red Raiders (21-1), who are ranked second in Division 2 by state coaches, beat the Panthers (16-4), who are ranked eighth in Division 2.
Senior Megan Johnson scored 19 points for West Salem, which also received 16 from junior Josie Brudos in a game they trailed 37-32 at halftime. Brudos made four 3-pointers, and Johnson scored 10 of her points in the second half.
Senior Makena Ihle scored 12 points for the Panthers and had 11 in the first half.
Luther 58, Melrose-Mindoro 42
ONALASKA — The Knights (17-4) won their third game in a row and had a 13-point lead by the end of the first half.
Senior Macie Neumeister scored a team-high 21 points and made 6 of 11 attempts from the 3-point line. Neumeister also had five rebounds.
Senior Allie Zittel added 18 points and made 4 of 7 3-point attempts. Zittel also had five rebounds and two steals. Freshman Cara Unke scored eight points and grabbed a team-high six rebounds to go with two assists and two steals.
Luther plays at Holmen on Monday.
