LA CROSSE — The Aquinas High School girls basketball team made sure it won’t have to share its 11th straight MVC championship with anyone on Tuesday by handing Onalaska a 79-51 defeat at the Reinhart Athletic Complex.
Senior Emma Dobbins made three of the Blugolds’ 12 3-pointers and scored a team-high 19 points. She made all of the 3s and scored 17 of those points in the first half to help her team to a 39-26 halftime lead.
Aquinas (18-3, 11-0) won its 17th game in a row and ran its conference win streak to 113 games. The Blugolds have a lead of two-and-a-half games over second-place Central (16-5, 8-2) and just one MVC game left to play.
Dobbins also had seven rebounds and two steals for Aquinas, which also received three 3s and 11 points from sophomore Olivia Passehl and 10 points each from sophomores Liv Dickinson and Eva Willenbring.
Junior Sammy Davis had eight points, nine rebounds and four assists, and sophomore Ava Fernholz led the team with five assists. Willenbring also had four assists.
The Hilltoppers (10-11, 5-5) were led by a 21-point performance from senior Tatum Walters, who made five 3-pointers. She scored 12 points in the first half and made three of her 3s in the second. Freshman Kayla Ketelhut added 11 points and senior Jenna Gansen 10 for Onalaska, which hosts Logan on Friday.
Central 55, Logan 29
LA CROSSE — The RiverHawks (16-5, 8-2) held the Rangers (4-17, 2-9) to 11 points in the first half at the Mark Sutton Memorial Gymnasium on the way to completing a regular-season sweep.
Junior Alahnna Simpson scored a game-high 16 points for Central, which has won eight of its past nine games and plays at third-place Holmen on Thursday.
Sophomore Ellie Gillitzer scored nine of her 14 points in the first half for the RiverHawks, who outscored the Rangers by 14 points in the first half and 12 in the second.
Logan received a team-high 13 points from junior Lydia Mason, who has averaged 13.3 points per game over her past three. She made a 3-pointer during a seven-point first half.
Holmen 68, Sparta 50
HOLMEN — The third-place Vikings (10-10, 7-3) climbed back to the .500 mark by making a season-high 12 3-pointers against the Spartans (10-12, 2-8) at the Bernie L. Ferry Fieldhouse.
Holmen scored the final 14 points of the first half for a 38-18 lead. Junior Macy Kline scored a career-high 24 points and had 18 of those before halftime.
The Spartans were within 11 points at 42-31 in the second half, but the Vikings regained control and pulled away.
Senior Danika Rebhahn made five 3-pointers and scored 15 points, while Kline also had seven steals and six assists. Junior Charley Casey had nine points and 12 rebounds for the Vikings as they enter Thursday’s game against Central.
West Salem 72, Westby 29
WESTBY — The Panthers (17-3, 10-0) moved one win away from clinching a share of the Coulee Conference title and won their sixth game in a row.
Junior Josie Brudos made four 3-pointers and scored all of her team-high 20 points in the first half for West Salem, which is scheduled to host Wauwatosa East (20-1) at 1 p.m. Saturday before closing out the regular season with games against G-E-T and Luther.
Senior Megan Johnson added 15 points, senior Sydney Quick 13 and freshman Anna Witte 10 with two 3-pointers.
Luther 69, Black River Falls 31
ONALASKA — The second-place Knights (16-4, 9-1) kept pressure on the first-place Panthers by winning for the seventh time in eight games.
Senior Macie Neumeister made three 3-pointers, hit all six of her free throws and scored 17 points to lead Luther in a game where it had a 35-19 lead by halftime.
The Tigers scored 12 points in the second half.
Senior Allie Zittel made 4 of 5 attempts from the 3-point line and added 16 points for Luther, which made 11 of 27 attempts from long-range. Freshman Natalie Hackbarth scored 14 points to go with a team-high five steals, and freshman Brinley Schmitz had nine points and nine rebounds.
Arcadia 68, G-E-T 28
ARCADIA — The Raiders (12-9, 7-4) assured themselves of a third-place finish in the Coulee by snapping a three-game losing streak and outscoring the Red Hawks 38-15 in the first half at the Wanek Center.
Eight players scored for Arcadia as it completed a regular-season sweep of G-E-T, and sophomore Madison Grotjahn scored eight of her team-high 14 points in the second half.
Junior Joselyn Lockington added 12 and sophomore Chloe Schlosstein 10 for the Raiders. Justina Sonsalla scored nine and Tatum Drazkowski and Amaya Schlesser eight each for the Raiders, who play challenging games at St. Croix Central (16-4) on Friday and at Durand-Arkansaw (16-5) on Tuesday.
Caledonia 70, La Crescent-Hokah 25
CALEDONIA — The Warriors (21-3) have won each of their past three games by at least 41 points and had three double-figure scorers against the Lancers.
Caledonia, ranked fifth in Class AA, won for the 13th time in 14 games and was led by junior Aubrie Klug’s 23 points. Junior Nicole Banse added 17 and senior Josie Foster 11 for Caledonia, which has beaten Maple River 80-37, Rushford-Peterson 70-29 and La Crescent-Hokah since a 64-60 loss at Goodhue.
The Warriors close out their regular season by hosting Cannon Falls (6-19) on Thursday and playing at Fillmore Central (13-12) on Friday.
