LA CROSSE — The Aquinas/Onalaska/West Salem boys ski team swept the championships in three Giant Slalom races at Mt. La Crosse on Wednesday.
Cullen Sackman and Patrick Gundersen each won one race for AOWS, and Central/Logan’s Benedict Althoff the third, but AOWS posted winning team scores of 13, 14 and 21 points.
Sackman won the first race in 17.05 seconds and placed second in the second (17.04) and fourth in the third (17.01). Gundersen won the second (16.92) and placed second in the first (17.09) and third in the third (16.79). Althoff won the third (16.76) and was third in the second (17.14).
Jonathon Gehrke finished in the top four in each race for AOWS, with his top showing a runner-up run of 16.77 in the third. He was also third in the first race (17.41) and fourth in the second (17.27).
The AOWS snowboard team also recorded a sweep with perfect scores of 10 in each of its three runs.
Bodie Callaway won all three with times of 20.13, 18.81 and 19.14 seconds, respectively. William Bakkestuen was second in the second (21.67) and third (26.88) runs after starting with a fourth-place (28.73) performance.
AOWS’s Carter Fortun was second (28.03) in the first run and teammate Braxton Wiczek third in all three with respective times of 28.32, 27.53 and 27.81.
An independent group of skiers won the three girls races behind Julia McBride and Alyssa Raven.
McBride won the second (17.92) and third (18.0) races and was third (18.76) in the opener. Raven won the first race in 18.01 and was second (18.04) in the second and third (18.32) in the third.
AOWS’s Kendall Carlson broke them up with second-place finishes in the first (18.68) and third (18.01) races and a third-place finish (18.48) in the second race. AOWS’s Elise Myre was fourth in the second (18.98) and third (18.89) races.
AOWS’s London Vanderhorst as the individual winner of all three snowboard races for the girls. Team scores were not kept.
Vanderhorst was timed at 24.44, 25.25 and 24.61 in her victories. Teammate Tennyson Makepeace (25.56, 25.76, 25.09) was second in all three, and teammate Jaycee Erickson (27.39, 28.22, 27.78) was third in all three.
Central/Logan’s Avah Connaughty (29.52, 28.68, 28.31) was fourth in all three.
