WEST SALEM — The Coulee Region girls hockey team made things interesting with a pair of goals in the third period, but that didn’t stop Chippewa Falls from leaving the Panther Den with a 5-3 victory on Thursday.
The Cyclones (4-15-1) fell behind by four goals early in the third before West Salem senior Mallory Long scored with an assist from Bangor junior Brooke Borkenhagen a7 7 minutes, 34 seconds of the third, and Onalaska senior Gianna Sanchez scored as the Cyclones were short-handed at 14:50.
Borkenhagen also scored with assists from West Salem senior Makenna Olson and Long in the second period to cut Coulee Region’s deficit to 2-1.
Sanchez scored her 10th goal of the season and Borkenhagen her seventh. Long scored her second.

ONALASKA — The Aquinas/Holmen co-op allowed four goals in the first period on the way to a loss at the OmniCenter.
The Avalanche (10-11-1) were outshot 38-26 and couldn’t get anything past Black River Falls goaltender Kyle Hansen.
