SPARTA — The Onalaska High School boys basketball team moved into a tie for first place in the MVC with a 69-58 victory over Sparta on Friday.
The Hilltoppers (13-4, 5-2) pulled even with Aquinas (15-2, 5-2) and both teams sit a half-game ahead of third-place Holmen (11-4, 4-2) and Central (8-5, 4-2). They travel to Central for a game with the RiverHawks on Saturday before playing at Aquinas on Tuesday.
Junior Ian Kowal scored 17 points to lead Onalaska in its second consecutive victory. Freshman Tyler Kowal and senior Jack Smith had 15 points, and senior Noah Chenault added 14.
Central 64, Tomah 34
LA CROSSE — The RiverHawks (8-5, 4-2) bounced back from a loss to Sparta and took over a share of third place with a win over the Timberwolves.
Sophomore Anthony Jones scored 21 points and had four rebounds and three assists for Central, which was up 35-17 by halftime after making 14 of 24 shots (58.3 percent) in the first half. Jones made 5 of 6 attempts from the 3-point line and has averaged 15 points over his past three games.
Senior Jaylon Calvert added 12 points and a team-high seven rebounds, and sophomore Gabe Servais finished with 11 points, four rebounds and three assists.
La Crescent-Hokah 67, Logan 53
LA CROSSE — The Rangers (6-11, 1-6) couldn’t dig out after falling behind by 15 points in the first half.
Senior Jacob Hackbarth scored 17 points and freshman Tommy Check 16 for Logan, which also received seven from sophomore Bubba Leaver.
The Rangers, who beat Aquinas on Thursday, plat at Onalaska Luther on Tuesday.

GALESVILLE — Junior Max Huelskamp scored 15 of his 18 points late in the second half for the Knights (12-4, 6-2) in their fifth straight win.
Huelskamp made 6 of 9 shots and hit 5 of 6 free throws for his team-leading scoring total. He also had three rebounds and four steals.
Senior Will Huelskamp added 14 points on 6-for-13 shooting and a team-high nine rebounds and three steals for Luther, which outscored the Red Hawks by 11 points in the second half.
Jackson Kendall and Logan Pierce scored nine and Synclair Byus eight for the Knights, who made 63 percent of their shots inside the 3-point arc.
Westby 56, Arcadia 50
ARCADIA — Sophomore Maddox Torkelson made a big 3-pointer with a minute to go as the Norsemen held off the fourth-place Raiders (9-8, 4-4).
Freshman Deklyn Grzadzielewski made three 3-pointers and scored a team-high 13 points for Arcadia. Seniors Kaiden Rotering Nolan Smith each scored 11 for the Raiders, who had won their previous four games.
